How to Get Children to Cooperate During Your Family Photoshoot
We've all been there..." Just one more picture honey, please smile at the camera!" only to be met with a complete meltdown.
Why is it always that one of the kids throws a temper tantrum when all you want is to get your family pictures done as quickly as possible?
Sound familiar?
Here are my top tips for avoiding meltdowns and getting kids to cooperate during your family photoshoot:
1.Make it Fun
What better way to keep kids entertained than playing silly games with them! These can be anything; a tickle fight, peekaboo, or simply walking hand in hand and lifting them in the air at the count of three. Sometimes I even bring bubble wands to the session and have the kids use them to blow bubbles!
2. Play Some Music
"Baby shark doo doo doo" or their favorite song. Pretty soon they'll be smiling a moving to the beat. Some kids can be camera shy, and music is a great way to distract them and get them to cooperate.
3. Bring Their Favorite Toy
When all else fails, you can always bring out their favorite stuffed animal or small toy they can hug or play with for a few minutes.
4. Let Them Move
Kids cannot sit still for too long. They need to move around and play to get their energy out. Let them explore their surroundings and find things that capture their attention. These photos will make for the most authentic moments.
5. Give a Reward
You can always promise them a little treat at the end of the session! Stickers, lollipops, ice cream, or a piece of candy. These always seem to be a great hit at my family photo sessions.
