Top Three Tips For Nailing Your Wintery Engagement Photo Session
Do you love winter? The freshly fallen snow can set a beautiful scene for a wintery engagement photo session! I'd like to share with you three tips for making it an awesome experience for you and your clients.
Tip 1: Plan in advance
I know this sounds simple but watch the weather hourly and plan the photoshoot at least 30-45 minutes before the predicted snowfall. I planned Emma and Damek's session exactly like this because I wanted to give them a variety of images in their gallery. Now, let me explain by saying that the prediction was for a heavy and fast downpour so I knew that once it started snowing we might not be able to shoot for that long. I planned this session an hour and a half before sunset.
Tip 2: Take Brakes
We all know that when it snows it gets really cold! Emma and Damek were getting uncomfortable being outside in the frigid air so we took breaks in between locations to warm up in the car. This gave us a chance to recuperate and go out shooting again.
Tip 3: Location, Location, Location
For this session, I had scoured a location that gave me enough variety and was fairly easy to navigate. I chose Westmoor Park in West Hartford because my client wanted a wintery cabin theme to the photos. I liked the birch trees, a wooden bridge, some large rocks, tall grasses, and a hill at this park. This location allowed me to get creative and capture the couple beautifully!
